IU Southeast Athletics welcomes new coaches

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (January 27, 2006) IU Southeast is proud to welcome two new coaches to its family. IU Southeast's Director of Athletics, Pat Mrozowski, released in a statement today the addition of a softball coach for the University's first ever softball program along with the hiring of a new men's tennis coach.

IU Southeast announced today that Todd Buckingham has joined the University as Head Women's Softball Coach. For the first time in the University's history, IU Southeast will introduce softball to its repertoire of sports starting with the 2006-07 season.

"We are eager to launch the softball program and thrilled to have a coach with such fantastic experience," said Patrick Mrozowski, IU Southeast's Athletic Director. "Todd is deeply committed to softball and he knows how to recruit and build team."

Buckingham is a native of Corydon, Indiana. Prior to accepting the position at IU Southeast, he served as Head Softball Coach for Bluefield State College in West Virginia. He is experienced with NAIA softball procedures and policies and was named 2005 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Coach of the Year.

Buckingham is also experienced in player recruitment. He was Softball Camp Executive Director for Tri-State All-Star Softball Camp which included recruiting and management of the program.

IU Southeast also announced today that Yancey Walters has joined IU Southeast as Men's Head Tennis Coach.

Walters is a full-time physical education and health teacher at Anchorage Independent School in Louisville. He has extensive professional experience as a tennis player, coach, and private instructor. During the 2004-2005 tennis season, Walters was IU Southeast's volunteer assistant coach.


IU Southeast's Director of Athletics, Pat Mrozowski, said he was pleased that Walters accepted the position. "We have a very successful tennis program at IU Southeast and Walters has already been a major contributor to that program," said Mrozowski. "He is joining an elite group of coaches here at IU Southeast and I know he will continue our tradition of excellence."

Walters is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana (USI). He is a certified teacher in both Kentucky and Indiana.
