Spalding wins the 2006 KIAC Volleyball Tournament

Wins over Asbury and IU Southeast seal the title.

SEMIFINALS

Match 3- No. 1 Spalding defeats No. 4 Asbury 3-0

Spalding defeated Asbury 30-24, 30-13, 30-26 in the first semifinal. Asbury made an early run in the third game but was held off in the final four points by the Golden Eagles. Jessie Lechlieter had 14 kills for Spalding, while Beth Leasor had 30 assists. Frannie Brohm led the Spalding defense with 22 digs. For Asbury, Melissa Phillips had 32 assists.

Match 4- No. 3 IU Southeast defeats No. 2 Brescia 3-1

IU Southeast upset Brescia in the second semifinal 27-30, 31-29, 31-21, 31-21. A narrow win in the second game swung momentum in the Grenadiers favor for the match. Vanessa Stauble led the attack for IU Southeast with 18 kills. Setter Katie Tinsley dug the ball 18 and had 45 assists. For Brescia, Krystal Smith had 48 assists, with 17 of those coming in the first game.

FINALS

Championship Match- No. 1 Spalding defeats No. 3 IU Southeast 3-0

Spalding wins the KIAC Championship over IU Southeast 30-21, 30-27, 30-23.

Spalding overwhelmed IU Southeast with big hitting. Shelby Acton was the team leader for Spalding in kills with 17. Beth Leasor led Splading's assists with 41. Tera Holinden for IU Southeast had 17 kills.
Spalding gets the automatic bid to the Region XII tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on November 17th and 18th at Mid America Sports Center.
