NEW ALBANY, Ind. (February 23, 2006) The 2005-06 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) women's basketball tournament continued on Thursday at the Southeast Activities Building on the campus of Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Ind.
The second day of action featured two women's basketball games. Bethel College and Berea won on Thursday advancing to Friday's semifinal round while Asbury and Mid-Continent were eliminated from the 2005-06 championship.
Game #1 (10:00 a.m.) No. 2 Bethel vs. No. 7 Asbury College
No. 2 Bethel College defeated No. 7 Asbury College on Thursday morning 95-56. The Wildcats dominated under the basket by pulling down 47 team rebounds to Asbury's 27. Bethel (26-4) was led by Whitney Baird with 22 points and six rebounds. Kala Morton added 15 points for Bethel while dishing out six assists. Heavy defensive pressure also helped Bethel win the contest as Suzanne Seat accounted for five of Bethel's 20 steals in the game. The Wildcats shot 50.0 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from behind the arc.
Asbury (14-16) was led by Amanda Gill with 17 points and five assists. Bethany Cahall added nine points and five rebounds for Asbury College. Asbury shot 38.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc in the contest.
Bethel moves on to semifinal play on Friday when they will square off against No. 3 Midway at 2:00 p.m.

Game #2 (12:00 p.m.) No. 1 Berea vs. No. 9 Mid-Continent
No. 1 Berea College advanced to the semifinal round of competition on Thursday when they defeated No. 9 Mid-Continent 118-64. Berea had four players scoring double digits with Rebecca May leading the team with 26 points along with four rebounds. Jenna Lowe also played a tough game for Berea scoring 17 points. Berea utilized their bench throughout the game as they accumulated 56 of their points from non-starters.
Mid-Continent's Sarah Cripps had the game's most dominate performance with 29 points and nine rebounds. Tara Ruphard also added 16 points for Mid-Continent. April Jackson and Bristyn Prowell both contributed five assists respectively. Mid-Continent (4-20) shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first half, but only shot 29.0 percent in the second half.
No. 1 Berea (24-5) becomes the last team to advance to semifinal action. They will square off against Indiana University Southeast on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
