Men's Results from KIAC Tournament Semifinals

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (February 24, 2006) The 2006 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) men's basketball tournament continued on Friday afternoon with semifinal action at the Southeast Activities Building on the campus of Indiana University Southeast.

The second day of action featured two semifinal men's basketball games. Spalding University and Indiana University Southeast were winners during the day and advance to tomorrow championship game at 8:00 p.m. Bethel College and Berea College were eliminated from the 2006 championship.

Semifinal #1 (6:00 p.m.) No. 6 Bethel College vs. No 2 Spalding University

No. 2 Spalding University punched their ticket to the conference championship game on Saturday night by defeating No. 6 Bethel College. Spalding University shot 21 of 36 from the field in the second half for 58.3 percent to help ensure victory.

Spalding (17-14) was led by Eric Johnson with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. The Pelican's William Ford spotted up for 21 points, eight rebounds and a steal. The Pelicans received a 17 point victory on the night head coach Kevin Gray was named KIAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year. Spalding shot 50.0 percent from the field in the game and 34.8 percent from behind the arc.

Bethel College (20-12) was led by the duo of Thomas Haynes and Brandon Self with 19 points respectively. Self also added four rebounds, four assist and two steals to the Wildcat's charge. Bethel shot 29 of 71 from the field in the contest for 40.8 percent and 8 of 26 from behind the arc for 30.8 percent.

With the win Spalding University advances to the championship game on Saturday when they compete with No. 1 seed Indiana University Southeast for the 2006 conference title.

Semifinal #2 (8:00 p.m.) No. 5 Berea College vs. No. 1 Indiana University Southeast

The No. 1 seeded Indiana University Southeast men's basketball team secured their place in Saturday's KIAC Championship game with a win over No. 5 Berea. The Grenadiers defeated the Mountaineers 93-63 in a very fast paced game.

Indiana University Southeast (29-3) was led by KIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year Robert Daniels who scored an impressive 26 points in the ball game along with five rebounds. Daniels hit an impressive 8 of 10 from the three-point line in the game. Ty Crone also added 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Nick Guilinger controlled the boards with 11 rebounds for the Grenadiers. Indiana University Southeast shot 54.4 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from behind the arc in the contest.

Berea College (13-16) was led by Jermaine Martin and Thomas Klimas who both scored 13 points. Berea College shot 40.3 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from behind the arc. The Mountaineers scored 22 points off of the Grenadier's 15 turnovers, but it was not enough to catapult Berea passed the Greanders.

Indiana University Southeast advances to the championship game on Saturday when they compete with No. 2 seed Spalding University (Ky.) for the 2006 conference title.
