No. 17 Berea (Ky.) tops Midway (Ky.) in Record-Setting Contest

MIDWAY, Ky. - No. 17 Berea College (Ky.)and Midway College (KY)broke the NAIA Division-II Women's Basketball record for combined points in a game Thursday when Berea grabbed a 120-111 overtime win at Marshall Gymnasium in Midway. The 231 combined points shatters the record of 230, which was previously set by Berea (117) and Wilberforce (113) on November 14, 2004.

Berea led throughout regulation but could not shake a determined Midway squad, which was playing at home after a four-week layoff. With Berea ahead 101-98, Midway freshman guard Katie Peterson (Cave City, KY) nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, but after the teams traded baskets for the overtime period's first three minutes, Berea surged ahead for the game's final two minutes.

Midway junior forward Ashley Parker (Midway, FL) led all scorers with 27 points and added 17 rebounds. Midway junior guard Danielle Lascoe (Louisville, KY) contributed 26 points. Senior guard De-An Watkins (Athens, AL) poured in 20 points to lead six Berea scorers in double figures.

No. 17 Berea (14-4) has averaged 98 points in its 18 games. Midway's record is now 7-10.
