Asbury advances to championship game with win in earlier semifinal
Mountain State University wins their first KIAC Championship after defeating Asbury College in four games 30-18, 30-25, 24-30, 30-28. Mountain State's win comes in their first year as a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member.
The two top performances for Mountain State included Samantha Daniels 52 assists and Jennifer Sloan's 51 digs. For Asbury, Ellen Adkison had 26 digs combined with 26 kills and Jenelle McClean had 45 assists.
Mountain State clinches the automatic bid to the 2007 NAIA Region XII Championships. Indiana University Southeast will join them as regular season conference winners in next week's tournament. The bracket and location of the tournament will be announced Monday.
Semifinals Summaries
Where yesterday's matches went according to seeding form, Saturday's matches featured upsets in the semifinals.
In the first semifinal, the fourth seeded Asbury College defeated the top seeded Indiana University Southeast in a five game thriller 30-20, 26-30, 20-30, 30-27, 15-11. A balanced attack was used to defeat the regular season champs with 29 assists from Julia Armstrong, Hannah Wheeler's 29 digs and Ellen Adkison's 24 kills.
In the other semi, third seeded Mountain State swept second seeded Brescia 30-24, 30-26, 30-27. All Conference player Jennifer Sloan was had 35 digs to start the Mountain State attack while Samantha Daniels had 37 assists and Jennifer Lilly finished off 14 kills.
