Recaps from Quaterfinal Play at HOOPS in Jeffersontown, Ky.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (February 22, 2006) The 2006-07 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) women's basketball tournament began on Thursday at HOOPS in Jeffersontown, Ky. Quarterfinals began on Thursday with three of the four semifinal spots up for grabs. Alice Lloyd College had the lone bye into the semifinals. Indiana University Southeast, Berea College and Asbury College advanced to join Alice Lloyd College on Friday. St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Midway College, and Spalding University were eliminated from the 2006-07 tournament.

Game #1 (4:00 p.m.) No. 2 IU Southeast vs. No. 7 STLCOP

No. 2 Indiana University Southeast defeated No. 7 St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday 97-49. Indiana University Southeast (21-7) shooting led the way with 58 percent from the field compared to 33 percent for St Louis College of Pharmacy (4-20).

Indiana University Southeast efforts were led by a double double performance from Tiffani Slaughter with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Vanessa Stauble had 14 points and took five defensive rebounds. Brittany Caple passed for 7 assists and grabbed three steals.

For St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Sandra Pratt and Jennifer Littrell both had double doubles. Pratt led the scorers with 14 points followed by Littrell and Katie Palmer with 13. Littrell and Palmer also tied for assists with four.

No. 2 Indiana University Southeast advances to semifinal action Friday at 6 pm against Berea College.

Game #2 (6:00 p.m.) No. 3 Berea vs. No. 6 Midway

No. 3 Berea College moves on to the semifinals after defeating No.6 Midway on Thursday 89-73. Berea's passing led to big advantage with 18 assists against Midway's eight.

Berea's (20-7) Rebecca May drilled 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Sarah Hughes topped the team in rebounds with seven. De-An Watkins also had seven rebounds with her 11 points.

For Midway (10-21), Ashley Parker made a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Arsenault's was also involved in the rebounding effort with nine boards. Danielle Lascoe's 21 points led the way in the scoring department.

No. 3 Berea College advances on to the semifinal round Friday at 6pm to face Indiana University Southeast.

Game #3 (8:00 p.m.) No. 4 Spalding vs. No. 5 Asbury

No. 5 Asbury College defeated No. 4 Spalding University 67-55 on Thursday in the final game of the quarterfinal round. A sloppy game at times in the second half was overcome by a 44 percent field goal percentage for Asbury.

Asbury's (12-13) Sarah Yates drilled both of her three point attempts in a 17 point and eight rebound effort. Anna Stephenson finished the game with 13 points and seven boards. Morgan Freeman also had seven rebounds.

Spalding's (7-23) scoring attack was led by Amy Etherton with 14 points. Allie Graves gave a double for the team with 10 points and rebounds respectively. Melissa Beasley grabbed six of the team's 29 rebounds

No. 5 Asbury goes onto the semifinal on Friday against No.1 Alice Lloyd Friday at 8pm.
