Berea Women's Basketball Falls in First Round of National Tournament
No.2 seed Bethel College (Ind.) defeated No. 7 seed Berea College (Ky.) 98-86 LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 8th, 2007) Bethel College (Ind.) defeated Berea College (Ky.) in the First Round of the NAIA Division II National Women's Basketball Championship 98-86 on Thursday Night.
Berea and Bethel went back and forth through the first ten minutes as Bethel held narrow leads until a 12-0 run spread their lead to 34-19. Bethel would go into the half ahead 51-30. The large leads would continue the rest of the game until Berea made a late charge to get within 12 for the final.
The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Champions used their deep bench and rotation to keep the game competitive. Four players for the Mountaineers scored 10 or more points. The lone double double for the team involved Sarah Hughes with 10 points and 10 boards. Annbruce Madden led the team in scoring with 17. Shavannah Brinson scored 16 with 5 rebounds to her credit.
Berea finishes the year at 22-8 overall.
