Spalding takes third matchup of the tournament over Brescia.

Spalding Baseball wins its fourth KIAC Baseball Tournament title in a row after an 8-3 win over Brescia in Berea, Kentucky Saturday evening. The win for Spalding gave Brescia their second loss in the tournament. Brescia handed Spalding their first loss in game eight with a narrow 16-15 loss in the first game of the finals. Brescia qualified for the finals Saturday Morning with a 17-3 rout over the fifth seeded and host Berea. Spalding's win earns them an automatic qualifying spot to next week's Region XII tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee May 9th-12th.

Game 8 #2 Brescia 16, #1 Spalding 15

No. 2 Brescia capped a wild game with a wild finish to force a decisive ninth game in the KIAC Tournament with a 16-15 win over top seeded Spalding Saturday afternoon. Spalding jumped out to a 9-1 lead. A six run fourth for Brescia narrow the contest to within two after the inning. Spalding would push back ahead only to be narrowed to 15-13 after six.

An offensive slugfest was toned down at this point. Spalding got the first two batters of the eight out, before a rally would even the game. Spalding would get two batters on base in the ninth before a fly out ended the inning. In the bottom half Brescia got two batters on and had an intentional walk to load the bags. A hard hit shot deflecting off the second baseman's glove into the outfield gave the Bearcats the win.

No. 1 Spalding won the third contest between top regular season teams in the conference in the last game X-X. The game was dominated by solid pitching through four innings. In Spalding's half of the fifth a barrage of singles and doubles would lead to five runs to break the deadlock. Brescia would respond with three runs of their own in the top of the next inning. In the seventh, another round of hitting and aggressive base running lead to three runs widening the gap to five. Two baserunners to lead off the ninth for Brescia were left on after a fly-out and double play to seal the title for the Golden Eagles.
