Mountain State University Joins the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Beckley, West Virginia school becomes newest member.

Mountain State University joined the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Friday. The move will allow the Cougars a chance at automatic qualification in Region XII each season from the conference. Currently the school sponsors men's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's softball, and women's volleyball. The Register-Herald in Beckley reports more sports may be added for the 2008-09 season.

The team joins Alice Lloyd College, Asbury College, Berea College, Brescia University, Indiana University Southeast, Midway College, and St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Mountain State will compete in the conference with the exception of men's basketball, where they will remain in Division I. The KIAC competes as Division II in basketball.
