NEW ALBANY, Ind. (August 31, 2007) Indiana University Southeast Athletic Director Pat Mrozowski announced today that men's basketball head coach Walt Corbean has resigned.

Corbean has accepted a position as the Director of Basketball Operations at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he will work under newly-hired Demon Deacons head coach, Dino Gaudio.

Corbean worked with Gaudio as an assistant coach at Army from 1994 to 1997. Gaudio was recently named head coach at Wake Forest after the tragic passing of Skip Prosser, who was a longtime friend and mentor to Corbean.

Corbean joined the Indiana University Southeast Athletic Department in 2000, when he was hired to take over the men's basketball program. During his seven seasons as head coach, Corbean has steadily advanced the basketball program with an unfaltering work ethic and a passion for the game. His focus on recruiting and player development helped revolutionize the program.

Corbean's first experience coaching at the collegiate level came at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) where he served as assistant coach and academic coordinator for Norse Athletics. During his tenure, NKU reached the Elite Eight of the 1995 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Tournament.

Before taking the helm at IU Southeast, he coached for three seasons at Army, serving as the Cadets' recruiting coordinator and assistant coach where he specialized in the development of perimeter players.

Corbean received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Xavier University in 1991 while playing basketball under Pete Gillen. During Corbean's time as a student-athlete, the Xavier Musketeers captured two Midwestern Collegiate Conference championships and compiled a remarkable record of 44-18. He received his master's degree in secondary education from Northern Kentucky University in 1997 while serving as an assistant coach.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Corbean graduated from Seven Hill High School in 1984. He spent four years at his high school alma mater as head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach prior to beginning his stint in college basketball.

As Corbean heads to Winton-Salem to become a Demon Deacon, he will be taking with him two of the Grenadiers most loyal and loved fans in his wife, Kathy, and the couple's son, Trey. Kathy Corbean has also resigned from her position with the university as associate director of campus life.

"Walt, Kathy, and Trey are going to be missed by the IU Southeast family," Mrozowski said. "Walt is a valued member of our athletics staff, who has developed a stellar men's basketball program during his time as a Grenadier. We wish Coach Corbean and his family all the best in their newest adventure at Wake Forest University and in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)."

During his seven seasons with the Grenadiers, Corbean has coached nine Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) All-Conference players, a KIAC Male Athlete of the Year and has singed three Indiana High School All-Stars. He has also led the team to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) National Tournament three times and compiled an overall coaching record of 140-95 (.596).

In 2005, Corbean led the men's basketball program to their most impressive season to date with an overall season record of 30-4. The team also earned their highest national ranking in school history when they finished ninth in the final NAIA Division II basketball poll. The program has also won four KIAC Conference Championships under the direction and leadership of Corbean.

IU Southeast will move forward quickly and immediately begin the process of searching for the newest men's basketball coach for Grenadier Athletics.
