2008 KIAC Tournament Set to Begin in Wilmore, Kentucky
The 2008 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Basketball tournament begins Thursday at the Luce Center on Asbury College's campus. 11 teams will start with the hope of securing the automatic bids (one men's and one women's) to the NAIA National Tournaments in March. Opening day play will begin with the quarterfinal round:
WOMENS GAMES
2:00 PM No. 5 Asbury College vs. No.4 Alice Lloyd College: 2007-08 Series Split
Both teams won on their home floor in the 2008 season. Asbury snuck out a one point victor in a January 22nd double overtime thriller, while Alice Lloyd won by 18 in Pippa Passes two weeks ago. The third meeting happens on Asbury's home floor led by Anna Stephenson who put up 28 points in the first meeting. Alice Lloyd's will look inside for the rebounding presence of Taran Cody.
4:30 PM No. 3 Berea College vs. No. 6 St. Louis College of Pharmacy: Berea Leads 2-0 in 2008
Berea's wins against STLCOP came in the opening game of the year and January 25th. Berea will utilize their attack of Ashley Howard (17 points a game), Candy Walls ( 8.5 rebounds/game), and Annbruce Madden (4.75 assists/game). Pharmacy will rely on All Conference nominee Sandra Pratt who a combined 47 points in their two meetings. Jennifer Littrell will also play a big role for Pharmacy on the boards.
MEN'S GAME
7:00 PM No. 5 St. Louis College of Pharmacy vs. No. 4 Asbury College: Asbury Leads 2-0
The tournament host's Asbury men's team won games on January and February 16th. Asbury has a balanced attack with five scorers with at least 10 points, three players with at least 5 rebounds. Brett Johnson leads the team in scoring (18.7), rebounds (7.6), and blocks (2.15) this season. Josh Boudeman and Jake Dallas led St. Louis scorers in the first two games against Asbury. Boudeman also leads the rebounding for the team on the year.
