KIAC Men's Basketball Tournament Day One
Asbury wins to join three others in the semis.
WILMORE, Ky. (February 28, 2008) The 2007-08 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) men's basketball tournament began on Thursday as Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. Asbury College won in the lone quarterfinal on the day over St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Indiana University Southeast, Berea College, and Alice Lloyd will join Asbury in Friday evening's semifinal play.
Game #1 (7:00 p.m.) No. 4 Asbury College vs. No. 5 St. Louis College of Pharmacy
No. 4 Asbury College defeated No.5 St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday 75-56. The game was a lot tighter than the previous two wins by Asbury earlier this season. Asbury's (17-12) shooting made the difference in the game with a 58 percentage from the field compared to 38 by St. Louis (4-22).
A pair of brothers led the way for Asbury. Michael Spann (Wilmore, Ky. / West Jessamine) scored 12 points to lead all scorers. Ben Spann (Wilmore, Ky. / West Jessamine) had 11 points and five rebounds. Overall, seven of the Eagles players had five or more points. Asbury also narrowly the battle of the boards 41-35.
For St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Josh Boudeman(Olympia, Ill.) had a 15 point and 18 rebound double double. Jonas Parker (Pawnee, Ill.) also tossed in 11 points. St. Louis shot 42 percent from three point range in the second half.
No 4 Asbury College becomes the fourth semifinalist and will face No.1 Indiana University Southeast at 5 p.m Friday.
