KIAC Men's Basketball Tournament Day Two
Top seeds to battle Saturday night.
WILMORE, Ky. (February 29, 2008) The 2007-08 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) men's basketball tournament continued on Friday at Asbury College. Indiana University Southeast and Berea College won in the semifinals to reach Saturday night's final. Asbury College and Alice Lloyd College were eliminated
Game #2 (5:00 p.m.) No. 1 Indiana University Southeast vs. No. 4 Asbury College
No. 1 Indiana University Southeast (23-8) defeated No.4 Asbury College 78-72 on Friday. The game was tight game all of the way with the largest lead only being 11 early. Asbury (17-13)hung tough even late and pulled to within four with 17.8 seconds left. Both teams shot well especially in the second half and both ended the game at 50 percent from the field.
For IU Southeast, Derick Hobbs (New Albany, Ind. /Saginaw Valley State University) went 7 of eleven in field goals on his 19 point night. DeJon Gary (Indianapolis, Ind. /Decatur Central) had 12 points and seven boards, all off the defensive glass. Charlie Gonzales (Louisville, Ky./Bellarmine University) had the rebounding high for the Grenadiers with nine. Each of the rebounding totals helped edge IU Southeast 35-30 over Asbury in rebounding.
Asbury's Michael Spann (Wilmore, Ky. /West Jessamine) scored 34 points in his season high game. His total was a main factor in Asbury's lead on bench points 45-21. Brett Johnson (Wilmore, Ky. /Embry Riddle University) was held to eight points but had nine rebounds and four blocks on the night. Ben Spann (Wilmore, Ky. /West Jessamine) scored 10 points with two assists and two steals.

Game #3 (7:30 p.m.) vs. No. 2 Berea College vs. No. 3 Alice Lloyd College
No.2 Berea College survived a late game rally to win 70-65 over No. 3 Alice Lloyd College Friday. Berea's 10 point lead midway the second half was narrowed to 52-49 at after a 7-0 run by Alice Lloyd. Alice Lloyd would charge back to within one at 66-65 with 14 seconds left. Two Berea (16-13) free throws coupled with an Alice Lloyd (12-18) miss would seal the game.
Berea's team effort on the boards led to advantages in rebounds (52-34) and second chance points (10-4). Cody Hornsby (Athens, Ohio/Federal Hocking) led Berea's scorers with 17 points. Jordan Samuels (Frankfort, Ky./ Western Hills) game consisted of 15 points and seven rebounds. Mikah Turner (Maysville,Ky. /Mason Co.) also had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Alice Lloyd College shot 46 percent from the three point arc. Preston Simon (Stanvill, Ky./Betsy Lane) went three for four from long range with 11 points total. William Jones (Manchester, Ky. /Clay Co.) hit two of his three attempts from long range in his 16 point outing. Corey Dixon (Science Hill, Ky./ Pulaski Co.) had a big night with 10 points and nine rebounds.
