IU Southeast wins the KIAC Men's Basketball Tournament

Top seeds win under first year coach Wiley Brown.

WILMORE, Ky. (March 1, 2008) No. 1 Indiana University Southeast defeated No. 2 Berea College 84-73 to win the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship title. The game featured a battle inside the post. Berea College (16-14) won the points inside the paint by 20-16. IU Southeast (24-8) knocked away 14 balls for steals.

The game was relatively even through the first eight minutes. IU Southeast would pull away to the biggest lead of the game at 13 with about two minutes left in the first half before Berea edged it back to 46-38 at the half. Berea would close back to within three at 61-58 before IU Southeast widened the lead to 10 and never looked back.

IU Southeast had 37 points off the bench. Jazzmarr Ferguson (Louisville, Ky. /Moore) led the bench and team with 18 points. KIAC All Conference team member Carlos Mitchell (Louisville, Ky. /Fern Creek) scored 17 points. Jeremy Holland (Austin, Ind. /Austin) was seven of eight from the line and had 14 points in the game.

Berea's All Conference trio led the way for the team. Jordan Samuels (Frankfort, Ky. /Western Hills) scored 23 points and 10 rebounds. Mikah Turner (Maysville, Ky. /Mason Co.) scored 15 points with seven boards. Charles Wandera (Kampala, Uganda) scored 10 points and eight rebounds.

IU Southeast's win gives them an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Championship on March 12-18, 2008 at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. For more information on the national tournament please visit: www.naia.org.
