Josh Schultz Resigns As Head Baseball Coach From IU Southeast NEW ALBANY, Ind. (May 30, 2008) Indiana University Southeast baseball coach Josh Schultz has resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at an NCAA Division I school, Athletic Director Pat Mrozowski said today.

Schultz will be an assistant coach at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) where he will work under ninth-year Mastodons Head Coach, and former IU Southeast baseball player, Billy Gernon.

"All of us here are sorry to see Josh leave our University. He received a wonderful opportunity and we all wish him the very best at IPFW. He did a fantastic job with our baseball program and we appreciate all his hard work and effort during his time as a Grenadier," said Mrozowski.

Schultz joined the Indiana University Southeast Athletic Department in 2007, when he was hired to take over the baseball program. During his two seasons as head coach, Schultz has steadily advanced the baseball program. His focus on recruiting and player development helped revolutionize the program in two short years.

Coach Schultz was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading the Grenadiers to a regular season KIAC title. Under Schultz, the Grenadier baseball program also won the 2008 KIAC Tournament Championship and earned an appearance at the NAIA Region XII Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn.

During his time at IU Southeast, Schultz has coached 21 KIAC All-Conference selections while leading the team to 55 wins. In the classroom, the program's number of KIAC Academic All-Conference honorees has more than doubled in the past two years. The team has also seen an increased its overall team GPA under the Schultz era.

Prior to coaching at IU Southeast, Schultz served two seasons as an assistant at University of the Cumberlands. The Patriots won 79 games in his two seasons, including a Region XI Runner-Up finish in 2005 and Mid-South Conference Championship in 2006. While at the Cumberlands, Schultz was responsible for outfielders and assisted with hitting instruction. Five Patriot outfielders were named All Mid-South Conference under Schultz's tutelage.

In 2006, the Patriot offense finished in the top five nationally in triples per game (2nd, 0.473), batting average (4th, 0.362), doubles per game (4th, 2.509), runs scored per game (5th, 8.691), and runs batted in per game (5th, 7.945). Three Cumberlands position players were also named NAIA All-American following the 2006 season.

In the summers, Schultz coached for the Cheyenne Grizzlies of the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League from 2005-2007. In 2005, he served as assistant coach for the inaugural season of the team and league. In 2006 and 2007, he returned as the team's head coach. His squads increased their win totals and improved their winning percentage in each season as head coach.

Two of Schultz's former players were selected in the 2007 MLB First Year Player Draft. Three of Schultz's former players have also played in various independent professional leagues.

Schultz, a native of Butler, Ky., graduated from Kettering University (Mich.) in 2002 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

IU Southeast will move forward quickly and immediately begin the process of searching for the newest baseball coach for Grenadier Athletics. Please visit www.ius.edu/hr for more information about the vacant position.
