Asbury Paired with Martin Methodist
Asbury will face #7 seeded Martin Methodist in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round on Saturday November 21st in Pulaski, Tenn.
The NAIA announced the pairings for the 26th
Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round and the Eagles will travel to Pulaski,
Tenn. to battle #7 seeded Martin Methodist College on Saturday November 21st.
Asbury (14-6, 5-0 KIAC)will make their first appearance in the
NAIA National Tournament after winning their fourth straight KIAC regular and
post-season titles this year behind a strong blend of seniors and
freshman. Senior Miranda Wiley was named
KIAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year after leading
the conference with 20 goals, she also added nine assists. Wiley is the school's all-time leader in
goals (70), assists (23), and points (163).
Freshman Rebecca Batey was second on the team this year with
15 goals, she also added seven assists.
Freshman keeper Melanie Dickson started every game and made 106
saves. She had a goals against average
of 1.22 and had six shutouts. Senior
Ashley Amburgy controlled the midfield for the Eagles and also scored five
goals, while senior Kellie German was the leader of a defense that has so far
allowed their fewest goals in school history.
Martin Methodist won the TranSouth Athletic Conference
Tournament to gain an automatic bid after a 14-2-2 record. This is their sixth appearance overall and
all six have come consecutively. The Red
Hawks have won the NAIA National Title
twice, in 2005 and 2007. They have won
the TSAC regular season and tournament titles six straight years. They hold a 10-1-3 record in the national
tournament.
Saturday's winner will advance to the final site in Decatur,
Ala. Saturday's game will be played at 4:00 pm eastern time, 3:00 pm central.
