Serving it up for the St. Louis Foodbank
STLCOP students and faculty came together on November 17 to play volleyball and raise some money for the St. Louis Foodbank.Seven teams participated in the charity Student-Faculty Volleyball Tournament at the Pill box and raised $177.34 for the foodbank.
Students on the "Drug Dealers" team won the tournament after defeating the "Ford Taurus Wagon" team in the championship match. Prizes were awarded for the tournament winners as well as for "best team T-shirt," which was won by the "Greek Combination Domination" team.
Second-year eutectic volleyball star Ashley McKinley and Karen Obermann, a third-year student and member of the conference-champion Eutectic cross country team, organized the tournament through their Varsity Sports class and as a part of the "Champions of Character" initiative through the NAIA. Members of the Eutectic volleyball team served as line judges and scorekeepers for the tournament.
"I really think this was a fun way to raise money," McKinley says. "I had a few teams ask that we have another one. That makes me happy that they had fun!"
