Asbury Women Win 4th Straight Soccer Title
Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury's senior class assured themselves of a fourth straight KIAC Championship and the program's first ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Brescia University.
Asbury (14-6) got started early as Bethany Russell netted the game winner in the 9
th minute. Then Miranda Wily, a senior from Collingwood, Canada, made sure to leave the home crowd with a lasting impression scoring three goals for the ninth time in her career. Those three goals give her 20 for the season, the second time she's reached that plateau in her four years. Jen Mendelson also scored for the Eagles, and Jess Young picked up her team-leading 12
th assist.
The Eagles have tied a program record with their 14 wins this season, joining the 2006 squad in that accomplishment. Asbury has won 52 games in the last four years including 14 in the conference and four KIAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles.
Asbury will now play in the NAIA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Eagles will play in an Opening Round match at a campus site on Saturday November 21st. The Opening Round pairings will be announced on Sunday November 15th. If the Eagles win that match they will head to the final site in Decatur, Alabama November 30-Decmeber 5.
