Wilmore, KY---The Asbury College baseball team took down #5 Union College (KY) 11-1 in six innings in game two of a double-header Wednesday March 11th. Union took game one 9-1.

Asbury (9-8) jumped on the scoreboard first in game two with a five run fourth inning. After a walk and a strikeout Blake Englehardt (Largo, Fl.) laced a double down the right field line moving Gardner Adams (Lexington, Ky.) to third. An intentional walk loaded the bases for Slade Halvaksz (Lexington, Ky.) who made the Bulldogs pay. Halvaksz smacked a single up the middle scoring one. Matt Ciolek (Richmond, Ky.) would reach on an error by third basemen Kris Mills, and two more runs would score. The Eagles would add another run on a wild pitch and the final one of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Union would score one run off starter Cody Christopher (2-2) when he hit the first batter and then walked the next. He would be lifted in favor of Joshua Cummins (Dry Ridge, Ky.) who would allow one of the two inherited runners to score on a sacrifice fly.

Asbury would come right back with two more in the bottom of the fifth when Zach Monroe (Lexington, Ky.) would blast his school record eighth home run of the year over the right field fence. Monroe also has the school record for home runs in a career in just his second year in the program with 15.

The Eagles would pile it on in the sixth with four more runs, the biggest and final blow coming off the bat of Adams who laced a two run double to the right field fence. Overall the Eagles had nine hits from eight different players. The duo of Christopher and Cummins shut down the high powered Bulldog offense, allowing only two hits. Cummins pitched two perfect innings of relief, striking out one. Christopher struck out two while walking five.

Union won game one 9-1 behind a six-run seventh inning. Asbury got their lone run in the fourth when Danny Olszowy (Lexington, Ky.) tripled down the right field line and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Ciolek. At the time that cut the Union lead to 2-1, but the Bulldogs would add one in the sixth and six in the seventh to pull away.

Asbury will host Taylor University for four games this weekend. Friday's doubleheader is set to start at 2pm and the two teams will hook up again for two Saturday at 12pm.
