NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Indiana University Southeast announced today that Jenni Walters will serve as the newest women's tennis head coach at Indiana University Southeast.

Walters succeeds long-time coaching legend Bill Ryall who retired from IU Southeast in May.

Walters is certainly no stranger to IU Southeast serving as a former student-athlete and assistant coach for the Grenadiers. Having so much knowledge of the program really excites Walters as she gears up for her first season as head coach, "I am looking forward to getting started immediately," said Walters. "I have great memories here at IU Southeast and I am ready to begin my coaching career with the great group of current and incoming players."

Walters served one year as an assistant coach for the IU Southeast women's tennis program under Ryall prior to being selected to take over the program.

Athletic Director Pat Mrozowski believes that Walters is a great fit for the program. "We are very pleased to have Jenni join our staff as a head coach. She was an outstanding player for IU Southeast and I am confident she will continue the success we have had under Bill Ryall's leadership."

Walters played four seasons at IU Southeast as a tennis standout. Walters was named IU Southeast Female Athlete of the Year in 2007 and also received the department's Champion of Character award in 2006. Walters was team captain during her junior and senior seasons. She played No. 1 doubles for all four of her seasons as a Grenadier. During her freshman and sophomore seasons Walters played at No. 2 singles before moving up to the No. 1 singles spot her junior and senior seasons.

Not only did Walters excel at IU Southeast, but she also dominated in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC). Walters was named KIAC Female Tennis Player of the Year and KIAC Female Athlete of the Year during her senior season. During that season, Walters was also named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention for her outstanding play on the court. Walters also earned All-Scholar Athlete status multiple times in the NAIA and in the KIAC.

Walters, a graduate of Southridge High School, received her bachelor degree in secondary education from IU Southeast in 2007. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in education from IU Southeast as she continues to teach 7th grade language arts at Silver Creek in Sellersburg.

A native of Huntingburg, Indiana, Walters is married to Yancey Walters who is also an educator in Louisville, Kentucky. The couple currently resides in New Albany.
