The Asbury men's basketball team visited Shriner's Children's Hospital in Lexington on Thursday night as a part of their "Champions of Character" participation with the NAIA. The players volunteered their help within the recreation and physical therapy part of the hospital for youth.

The trip was planned by Asbury coach Will Shouse and designed to allow the men on the team a chance to serve the surrounding community and ultimately lift the spirits of some young people within the hospital. The players found themselves involved in activities such as painting, playing cards, doing crafts, playing video games, and even shooting basketball with the patients.

"Hopefully we were able to give the kids at the hospital some encouragement and allow the staff a chance to get some help" Coach Shouse said. " I am not sure who enjoyed the trip more, us or the patients. We are thankful to Shriner's for giving us the opportunity to serve."

Asbury will take the court for the first time November 6th and 7th as they host the Zweifel Classic.
