Morrison's Milestone Leads Eagle Rout
Phillip Morrison became the 14th player in Asbury history to score 1,000 points on Saturday January 30th.
Wilmore, Ky. - Phillip Morrison scored his 1,000th
career point as the Eagles cruised to a 83-50 victory over the Eutectics of St.
Louis Pharmacy on Saturday afternoon.
Morrison became the 14th member of the prestigious club,
scoring all 12 of his points in the first half, he now sits at 1,001 points in 58
games.
Asbury (12-12, 4-3 KIAC) has won three straight after losing
the previous four. The Eagles jumped out
to a 48-19 first half lead and never looked back as 16 players saw the court
and 14 scoring. Morrison led the team
with 12 and Jamal Morris added 11 off the bench and Adam Delph scored 10 and
had a game-high seven assists in only 18 minutes of action.
Daniel Drury knocked down three of the team's 14 threes on
the day. Asbury has now hit 43 threes in
their last three games and is shooting nearly 40% from beyond the arc in those
games. Delph, Morrison, Brock Hurtle,
and Nick Ziemann all hit two threes on Saturday as Ziemann notched his first
career points.
Tyler Woods led the team with five rebounds in only six
minutes of action as the Eagles pulled down 36 boards compared to 43 for the
Eutectics. Asbury held Pharmacy to only
35% shooting and forced 22 turnovers.
Justin Jones led the Eagles with four steals and two blocks.
Asbury will host Indiana University East on Thursday February
4th at 7:30 pm in a pivotal game for seeding in the KIAC
Tournament. Asbury currently is a game
behind Brescia for third place and holds a game lead over Berea and IUE. The Eagles lost to the Red Wolves back in
their first meeting in Richmond 84-56.
