Commissioner Bill Melton Talks KIAC with Joe B and Denny
Berea, KY. (November 29th, 2010) - KIAC commissioner Bill Melton sat down with Joe B. Hall and Denny Crum on their radio show Tuesday morning to discuss the KIAC.
Commissioner Melton and the coaches spent nearly an hour in the studio discussing the KIAC. The segment began with a discussion about the history of the KIAC. The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has a history that goes back to the early 1900's. The conference was founded in 1916 and at some point in time has included nearly all schools in the state of Kentucky except the University of Kentucky. As a matter of fact, the University of Louisville won the KIAC men's basketball tournament twice in the 1920's.
The panel continued with discussing the conference as it is today. Commissioner Melton commented on the competitive nature of the conference and the emphasis on academics as well as the Champions of Character initiative. While the KIAC competes at the NAIA Division II level, many of the conference's member schools compete against NAIA Division I schools as well as NCAA Division I schools. During a break Coach Hall and Commissioner Melton agreed that a closely contested game is good at any level of sports. A caller to the show supported this thought by sharing that they often attend KIAC games and find the games entertaining and competitive.
The KIAC would like to thank the coaches for the opportunity to engage in conversation about the conference. For more information about sports of interest, please take some time to review the member schools, their locations, and their schedules.
