Eight teams come to Frankfort, Two Leave with a Title!!!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (February 25th, 2010) - The eight winners of Tuesday's Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Basketball Championships are heading onto the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Kentucky for Friday's play. Four men's and four women's teams will play for the right to Saturday's title games, with the women's title at 1 p.m. and men's title at 4 p.m.

All four women's first round hosts won their respective games to advance. In the first women's semifinal at 2 p.m., top seed Indiana University Southeast (21-8) will take on fourth seeded Asbury College (14-16). Indiana University Southeast won the two regular season contests, with 11 three pointers made in the first game in New Albany. Asbury will look to out rebound as they did in the second contest in Wilmore 38-27.

The second semifinal at 4 p.m. features second seeded Berea College (11-18) and third seeded Brescia University (17-13). The season series was split, with the home team winning each time. Berea won by three at home and Brescia won the return game by 14. While the first game was statistically even, the second included a rebounding advantage of 38-24 for Brescia.

In the evening, both men's semifinals will feature a matchup of visiting team and a home team winner from the first round. The 6 p.m. contest has top seed and nationally ranked number five Indiana University Southeast (23-4) against fifth seeded Asbury College (15-16). IU Southeast won both games handily and will look to make it three on the year. Asbury will look to a balanced scoring attack to slow down their opponents.

For the nightcap at 8 p.m., second seed Brescia University (22-9) and sixth seed Cincinnati Christian University (16-15) will square off for the final Saturday slot. Both teams mark their first appearance in the conference semifinals. Brescia had the upper hand in both contests this year. Both contests were high scoring and very even in the first half with Brescia outscoring CCU 106-82 in the second half.

Both the men's and women's tournaments are single elimination tournaments, with an automatic bid to the winners of the tournament to the NAIA Division II National Championship. The NAIA Division II National Championships involve a 32 team tournament for the men and women. The men will play in Point Lookout, Missouri at College of the Ozarks on March 10-16, 2010.
