2010 KIAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FINAL

IU Southeast edges Brescia in KIAC Final to gain automatic bid.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (February 27, 2010) - No. 1 Indiana University Southeast defeated No. 3 Brescia University 72-66 to win the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship title. No lead ever got past nine for IU Southeast (23-8) in the game. Brescia (18-14) narrowed the margin at the ends of each half including to three at the end of the first half and two within a minute left in the game.

IU Southeast's Alden Krausse (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Tia Wineinger (Dubois, Ind.) and Megan Murphy (Bloomington, Ind.) tied for the team rebounding lead with nine a piece. Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) scored 12 for the tournament champions.

Brescia's Britney Bird (Leitchfield, Ky.) scored 23 including 11 of those from the free throw stripe. Clarissa Houston (Morganfield, Ky.) scored the first six points for the Bearcats in her 17 point outing. Amelia Keller (Palmyra, Mo.) shot perfect from the field and scored 11 points. Erika Murphy (Burkesville, Ky.) led the team on the glass with eight rebounds.

IU Southeast's win gives them an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Championship on March 10-16 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. For more information on the national tournament please visit: www.naia.org.
