Rehner will guide Asbury's Men's and Women's Golf teams in 2010-2011.
Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury Athletics has named Steve Rehner as
head coach of the revitalized Golf program.
Rehner will start immediately to recruit both male and female
student-athletes for the 2010-2011 season.
Asbury will compete in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (KIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA). Rehner will also work towards
the overall development of the program including lining up courses for the team
to practice on and start scheduling.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to start this
program" Rehner had to say. "I have
always loved Asbury; it's been such a big part of what I've done in my
life. I look forward to recruiting and
encouraging kids to be a part of Asbury as they get their education and play
the sport they love."
A 1979 graduate of Asbury, Rehner was part of the soccer and
track and field teams during his time on campus. He still holds the school record for pole
vault.
"Steve is an avid golfer with great connections both on the
local and state levels. He will be a
great asset to the program as it's built from the ground up" Athletic Director
Gary Kempf had to say. "He has a great
knowledge of Asbury, as both an institution and athletically, and we are
thrilled to have him on board."
Rehner's three oldest children have all attended Asbury,
Emily ('09), Daniel ('11), and Jonathan ('13), all of whom have played
soccer. His youngest daughter Allison
will start at Asbury in the fall of 2010.
Rehner currently lives in Wilmore with his wife Pam.
