Legg leaps into Little State top four
MARION, Ind. - With a miraculous 'finishing kick,' Indiana University
East junior Vanessa Legg leaped into the top five at the Little State
Invitational women's high jump competition.
Legg (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) matched her season
best with a jump of 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1.75 inches) to finish in a tie
for fourth in a women's high jump field of 25 at the Little State
Invitational on April 9 at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Legg
cleared 1.57 meters with a couldn't-do-that-again-if-she-tried moment.
Legg
brushed the crossbar on her ascent and thought she had missed her
attempt. However, Legg's leg accidentally knocked the crossbar into the
air and back onto the two standards.
Good jump!
"Everyone
was laughing and couldn't believe it," said IU East athletic director
Mark Hester, who accompanied the Red Wolves' athletes to the meet.
Legg
had a jump high enough to clear the next height (1.62 meters), but hit
the crossbar with her shoulder on her ascent.
Kailey Honn of
Manchester won the high jump with a leap of 1.67 meters (5-5.75)
The meet was open to all non-NCAA Division I track and field programs in Indiana.
