Wilmore, Ky. - The Asbury University men's basketball
program announced the commitment of Austin Flannery (Scott Co. High School) for
the 2010-11 season.
Flannery was a starting guard on a Scott County team that
will send three players to the NCAA Division I level. The Cardinals were KHSAA State Semi-finalists
in 2010 as well as 11th Region Champions. A knock-down shooter, Flannery
averaged 10 points per game and hit on 40% from the three point line and 50%
from the field. He was a 72% shooter
from the free-throw line. His season
high came against Louisville Seneca when he scored 28 points.
After transferring from Boone County High School after his
sophomore year Flannery played in all 68 games for Scott County his junior and
senior seasons and scored over 500 points for the Cardinals. He was named to the 42nd District
All-Tournament Team and was the 2010 Central Bank Classic MVP. He was also a member of the 2010 Toyota
Classic All-Academic Team.
Head Coach Will Shouse commented on the commitment, "We are
very excited to add a shooter like Austin to our team. Anytime you can add a player from a program
the caliber of Scott County it is obviously a plus. Coach Hicks has developed a winning mentality
at Scott County and we think Austin will bring that with him and make it contagious
throughout our program."
Coach Shouse added, "Austin is going to be a great fit at
Asbury. He's got great character and
will fit in with not only our team but also our campus. We are very eager to get Austin here in the
fall and expect him to help to continue to elevate our program."
Flannery will formally sign with Asbury on May 5th. He chose the Eagles despite interest from
Northern Kentucky and Walsh (Ohio) among other schools.
