IU East receives international honor for bus design
The Wolfmobile rolled into the Circle of Excellence.
Indiana University East received a Bronze award in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence program.
The Run with the Wolves Bus Wrap was honored in the "Excellence in Design: Specialty Pieces" category.
Circle of Excellence Awards are advancement's premier international awards program exclusively recognizing the work of CASE members, according to the CASE Web site.
The new bus debuted Sept. 18, 2009, for an IU East volleyball road trip.
The impressive "running wolf" logo on the full length of the bus attracted attention across the Eastern Indiana and surrounding states.
"I really wanted to show a sense of energy and movement," said IU East Office of Communications and Marketing Graphic Designer Susanna Tanner, the lead designer for the bus wrap. "I wanted people to feel like the wolf was running down the highway with them.
"It was a really fun project to work on because it was so different. When you are designing something on that large of a scale you don't know how it will look until you actually see it, so the first time I saw the bus I was really excited too."
Alabama football fans who saw the bus in Lexington, Ky., when the Red Wolves were in the area for a volleyball tournament were so impressed they stopped to take photos.
"It's the Wolfmobile! It's a head-turner," said IU East athletic director Mark Hester.
"It's the equivalent of having a low-rider hot rod with lights and hydraulics in the bus world as far as getting attention and turning heads."
