Softball Individual Awards Announced
The KIAC released the softball all-conference team, player of the year, pitcher of the year and coaches of the year on Wednesday, May 11th.
Indiana University Southeast sophomore infielder Katie Jelinek was named the KIAC softball player of the year. She finished the season with a .321 batting average. Her seven homeruns and forty-two runs batted in led the conference. Jelinek's teammate Kayla Duke was named the KIAC softball pitcher of the year. The junior pitcher finished the season with a record of 14-10 and was fourth in the conference with an earned run average of 2.03. Opponents had a batting average of .222 against Duke which was third in the conference. She led the league in wins (14) and strikeouts (136).
Indiana University Southeast coach Todd Buckingham and Asbury University coach Larry McCullough were named co-winners for coach of the year. Buckingham led IU Southeast to the regular season championship with a conference record of 17-1. They were the tournament runner-up. McCullough paced Asbury to second place in the regular season with a conference record of 14-4 and a conference tournament championship.
