Alice Lloyd Coach and Player Recognized as Champions of Character

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has recognized a coach and player from Alice Lloyd College with Champions of Character awards. Alice Lloyd coach John Mills has been named the 2011 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference NAIA Coach of Character Award. In addition, Alice Lloyd women's basketball player Gemma Gray has been named the recipient of the 2011 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference NAIA Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character Award.

The Champions of Character Program is geared toward teaching student-athletes and coaches about the positive impact that they can have on others by demonstrating 5 Core Values. These values are: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.

Coach Mills is the women's basketball coach and softball coach at Alice Lloyd College. The Alice Lloyd women's basketball team was recognized as the winner of the Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Award for Division II earlier this year (http://www.kiacsports.com/article/1187.php). The Lady Eagles organized several programs with important messages this year including a Breast Cancer Awareness Program and an Anti-Bulling Program. They also assisted fellow Alice Lloyd students in several other programs as well. Gemma Gray is a member of the women's basketball team and was an integral part of putting these programs into practice. Her actions on and off the basketball court were recognized by the NAIA as being exemplary according to the Champions of Character Program.
