MAKING THE LEAP: Long jumpers compete at national meet May 25
Indiana University East long jumpers Brandon Muncie and Josiah Lemons will compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University.
The long jump competition is scheduled for May 25 at 1 p.m.
MILESTONE MARKER
Muncie (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School), a freshman, and Lemons (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School), a redshirt freshmen, are the first IU East track and field athletes to qualify for the national meet.
LAST TIME OUT
Muncie won the long jump and Lemons was third in the long jump at the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on April 28 at Berea College.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Ethan Dejongh of Fresno Pacific (Calif.) is the reigning NAIA champion in the men's long jump. He won the 2011 national title with a leap of 7.52 meters (about 24-8).
Ronnie Taylor of Hastings is the No. 1 seed for the 2012 men's long jump competition. Taylor has a top mark of 7.93 meters (about 26-0).
ATHLETES TO WATCH
Muncie is the No. 8 seed for the national meet based on his jump of 7.29 meters (about 23-11) at the Anderson University Easter Invitational.
Lemons is the No. 18 seed based on his jump of 7.10 meters (about 23-4) at the Little State Invitational.
NUMBERS OF NOTE
Muncie and Lemons are two of 20 athletes across the nation who qualified for the NAIA national meet in the long jump.

The IWU Track & Field Complex is located on the Indiana Wesleyan campus at 4201 South Washington Street in Marion, Ind.
Admission is $6 for adults (three-day pass for $15) and $2 for NAIA students with proper identification. Admission is free for children age 7 and under.
