Reading, writing and Red Wolves: Basketball team meets with students

The Red Wolves shared school tips and basketball tips with some of their young fans on June 11.

Indiana University East basketball players met in the IU East individual workout gymnasium with youngsters in the local Third Grade Academy.

The IU East athletes started the afternoon by answering the youngsters' questions about school, careers and basketball.

Red Wolves coach Mark Hester coordinated several basketball shooting games. Each student who answered an IU East trivia question correctly got a chance to sink a basket to win a prize.

IU East players Marcus Isaac (Indianapolis, Ind./Purdue University North Central), Ian Enriquez (Lake Station, Ind./Lake Station Edison High School), Brandon Muncie (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School), Cody Banet (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central High School), Huston Clark (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo High School), Bakari Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./George Washington High School) and Trevor George (Princeton, Ind./Wabash Valley College) coached the youngsters during the contests - occassionally substituting to take the prize-winning shots.

"The kids always enjoy their time with the teams!" wrote the Third Grade Academy teacher.

The Third Grade Academy is an intensive summer program designed to boost reading and other learning skills for third-graders in the Richmond area.
