KIAC Women's Basketball 2012-13 Season in Review
The 2012-2013 KIAC Women's Basketball season introduced conference newcomers Carlow University and Point Park University. The KIAC had the top two scorers in the nation with Ariel Nickell averaging 26.04 points per game and Trenia Barbee averaging 24.36 points per game. Conference newcomer Point Park University claimed the regular season and conference tournament championships and finished 25-7. They fell to eventual national champion Indiana Wesleyan in the NAIA Division II national tournament. The Pioneers received 31 points in the final coaches' poll which placed them in the No. 29 position nationally.
The conference had three players named NAIA All-Americans. KIAC women's player of the year Ariel Nickell was named to the NAIA Division II third team. Heather Wheat (IU Southeast) and Trenia Barbee (Asbury University) were named as honorable mention selections. Point Park University head coach Tony Grenek was named the KIAC Coach of the Year.
The KIAC had six basketball players named Daktronics –NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Scholar –Athletes. Student- athletes are nominated by their institution's head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
