Point Park's Manny Perdomo National Pitcher of the Week
Point Park University pitcher Manny Perdomo named National Pitcher of the Week. The national office announced the award on Tuesday.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chase Jensen of Oklahoma City has been named the NAIA National Baseball Player of the Week and Manny Perdomo of Point Park (Pa.) has been tabbed National Pitcher of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Jensen and Perdomo were selected based on their performances from April 15 – 21 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group winners.
Jensen, a native of Arlington, Texas, helped Oklahoma City win three of a four-game series at Wayland Baptist (Texas) April 19—20. He led the Stars with a .667 (10-for-15) batting average that included four home runs, two triples, a double and nine RBI. He racked up 27 total bases and a 1.800 slugging percentage, while adding two steals and walking twice.
In game one, the senior shortstop powered the Stars with two home runs, including the second of back-to-back homers in the seventh to extend the Oklahoma City lead to 11-1. Jensen finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. He concluded the day with a 2-for-3 effort in the nightcap, including a one-out RBI triple down the right field line, before adding his third home run of the series in the top of the third in game three. Jensen's blast drove in three and gave the Stars a 6-1 advantage. He ended the week just as he started, with three hits, including another home run and a triple.
On the season, Jensen is tied for the team lead with 10 home runs, while ranking second on the squad in RBI (44) and total bases (100).
Perdomo, a junior right-hander, earned his fifth win of the season with a seven-inning, no-hit performance against NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) April 18. The native of Miami, Fla., carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before hitting a batter to start the frame. Perdomo had 10 strikeouts over his seven innings of work.
Perdomo owns a 5-2 record and 1.89 earned run average in 47.2 innings pitched.
