Brescia's Matt Lowe Competes at NAIA Nationals

20,000 meters is a long way for anyone to run; it's nearly 12.5 miles. That was the distance that senior, Matt Lowe raced this weekend at the NAIA National Outdoor Track Championships in Marion, IN. On Thursday night, Lowe competed in the 10,000m run where he placed 5th in a personal best, school record time of 30:37. The performance earned him his second All-American award.

Along with his outstanding run in the 10,000m, Lowe also qualified to run the 5,000m prelims on Friday, where he ran a stellar 14:56.2 to easily advance him to Saturdays final. Head Coach, Alan Schulze, had this to say about the run, "Thursday [the 10,000m] was obviously our main concern and that's why we chose to do the 5,000m as well. Matt is a senior and he should get to end his career the way he wants. We were both in agreement that the 10K was our first priority, but he welcomed the challenge of running the 5K also."

Saturday afternoon Lowe ended his career with a 13th place finish in the 5,000 with a time of 14:52.0. Schulze said, "Obviously, 13th wasn't our dream outcome, but it was still great. After 3 long races in as many days his run is still impressive. My favorite part was that Lowe never backed down and still ran strong. It was a great weekend to end his career on."

Lowe ended his career with honors such as:
