Crowell Selected NAIA Baseball Honorable Mention All-American
PITTSBURGH -- NAIA national batting champion Jordan Crowell, a sophomore third baseman for Point Park University, has been named NAIA Baseball Honorable Mention All-American, the NAIA announced on Monday (June 3). He is a native of Milford, Ohio, who transferred to Point Park this year from the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Crowell led the NAIA in batting average a .441 (63 for 143) and was also named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, All-KIAC First Team and Point Park Team MVP. Crowell hit third in the batting order Point Park, which was 39-16 overall and reached the NAIA National Championship Opening Round for the second year in a row.
Besides leading the nation in batting average at .441, which is in the Top 10 in Point Park program history for a single season, he also had one home run, 40 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .531. His NAIA-best average was built on 63 hits in 46 games. Crowell ranked second in the KIAC in hits and fifth in the conference in RBIs and slugging percentage.
Crowell edged out Matt Thomas, an NAIA First Team All-American second baseman for Martin Methodist, for the NAIA batting title. Thomas hit .440 (85 for 193) in 54 games. Next on the list was NAIA Second Team All-American outfielder Brady Steiger of Lewis-Clark State at .430 (89 for 207) in 57 games.
This summer, the Milford (Ohio) High School graduate will be playing in the prestigious Valley Baseball League, a collegiate wood-bat league that is regarded as one of the best summer leagues among those in the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball.
Crowell is a member of the Winchester Royals of the VBL, and he will be playing third base or first base. The 12-team league will have 44 games for each team, and it based out of Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The season started May 31 and has its regular season run through late July.
