Brian Skortz named Brescia Athletic Director

Brescia University President, Father Larry Hostetter, is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Skortz as Athletic Director, effective June 10, 2013. Brian comes to Brescia from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin ready to take on the challenges of leading the Bearcats and Lady Bearcats into the future. Father Larry adds, "At Brescia we consider athletics an important part of our educational experience. Students learn discipline, sacrifice, and team work. I'm very pleased to welcome Brian to our team of educators."

Since 2004, Brian has been working for the Fond du Lac Public School District serving as Athletic Director from 2004-2012, supervising 58 high school teams at various grade levels as well as working in the School District's Recreation Department as Recreation Supervisor and Programmer this past year developing athletic programs within the school district's athletic strategic plan that he helped create called 20/20 vision. Skortz also served in his role as athletic director as President of the Fox Valley Association Conference (2010) as well as President of the Badgerland Hockey Conference (2008). Skortz also served as Wisconsin State Delegate for the Wisconsin Athletic Director's Association at the NIAAA National Convention in Nashville, TN in 2007

Prior to Fond du Lac, he was with the Port Edwards (WI) School District (2000-2004) serving as Technology Education Teacher, Assistant Baseball Coach (2003), Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach (2000-2004), and Middle and High School Athletic Director (2000-2004). Skortz also was the Head Boys Baseball coach for 2 seasons during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Skortz was 63-36 as the Head Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach helping the Blackhawks reach the WIAA Regional Final in his final season.

From 1995-2000, Skortz was at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. He served as Asst. Men's basketball coach (1995-96), Head Men's basketball coach (1996-2000), and even served as Head Women's volleyball coach during the 1996 season. Skortz's basketball coaching accomplishments include Conference, State, State Runner's up, and NJCAA Region XIII Championships.

Mr. Skortz was himself a student-athlete playing basketball and baseball for Lakeland College. He earned All-Conference selections in baseball (1988, 1990, and 1991) and was part of the 1988 Lake Michigan Conference Championship Team for Lakeland College. He also played semi-professional baseball for the Howards Grove AC's (1989-1994) and was named Shoreland League MVP in 1994 and most valuable pitcher in the league (1990-1994). Skortz was 39-8 as a pitcher for the AC's and holds many season and career records. Skortz also was selected to play in the Lake Michigan Conference All-Star game in 1991 in the sport of men's basketball.

Skortz received his B.A. in Business Administration from Lakeland College in 1992 and received his Masters of Science in Sports Administration (with honors) from American Public University in 2012.

Skortz is married to his wife Shannon and has three children, daughter Avery (16) and sons Tyler (13) and Kobe (11).
