Asbury University junior CJ Penny was named the KIAC men's basketball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, January 13th. This is his second player of the week award of the season.
Asbury finished the week 2-1. They had wins against Berea College 94-86 and IU Kokomo 80-63. They fell to Cincinnati Christian University 87-65. Penny finished the week averaging 22.3 points, 16 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2 steals. He connected on 61.7 percent (29-of-47) of his field goal attempts. He scored 37 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the win against Berea College. The junior forward recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to Cincinnati Christian. He finished the week with 17 points, 22 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals in the win against IU Kokomo. Penny is 10th in KIAC points per game (15.67) and leads the conference in rebounds per game (10.93). His rebounds per game average also ranks 4th in NAIA Division II.
Asbury University is currently 10-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They will return to action on January 15th when they host Indiana University East.
