Crow Named Women's Soccer Honorable Mention All-American
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Rio Grande junior forward Kasey Crow was among those named to the honorable mention list of the 2014 NAIA Women's Soccer All-America teams on Monday by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Crow, a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, was the offensive leader of the RedStorm, who enjoyed the best season in the program's history by winning a single-season school record 12 games.
Head coach Callum Morris' team also captured the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, while advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history.
Crow, the KIAC Offensive Player of the Year, led Rio with 10 goals and 22 points. The school's all-time leader in both categories with 30 goals and 67 points in her career, Crow is the first Rio female to ever receive All-American recognition in soccer.
The team was selected by the NAIA All-America Committee, which consists of the NAIA-Women's Soccer Coaches Association officers and seven additional women's soccer coaches.
Embry-Riddle (Fla.) junior forward Andrea Froshaug was named the 2014 Select Sport America-NAIA National Player of the Year. The Oslo, Norway, native is the first Eagle in school history to receive the award since its inception in 1997.
Froshaug was a third team All-American in 2013, and was a major contributor to her team's No. 1 ranking and its run to the semifinals in the national championship this season. She led the club in goals with 16 in 20 matches.
Carola Schneider of national champion Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) – a second team member – headlines the group of returning All-Americans. Schneider was a first- teamer in 2013 as a freshman.
This year, six freshman were honored on the lists, including Schneider's teammates Amanda Kander (first team) and Karin Bernet (third team).
Overall, 13 programs landed at least one player on the first, second or third team. Embry-Riddle led all clubs with six honorees, followed by Lindsey Wilson with five. Concordia (Ore.) joined Northwestern Ohio and Westmont (Calif.) with three honorees apiece.
The Eagles and Blue Raiders each had three players on the first team.
In addition to Froshaug, the first team also included forwards Elizabet Madjarac of Lindsey Wilson and Alice Coyne of Northwestern Ohio; midfielders Tiffany Dimaculangan of Westmont (Calif.), Kander and Bettina Brulhart of Lindsey Wilson and Julia Karlernas of Embry-Riddle (Fla.); defenders Helena Hansson of Embry-Riddle (Fla.), Sophie Judd of Westmont (Calif.) and Jasmin Ayala of Concordia (Ore.); and goalkeeper Lindsay Kitson of Cumberland (Tenn.), which eliminated Rio in the opening round of the national tourney.
