IU Southeast Men's Basketball Loses in NAIA Second Round
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – IU Southeast's comeback fell short as Robert Morris defeated the Grenadiers 71-66 in the second round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament.
Jordan Hester hit a three-pointer with 40 seconds to play to give Robert Morris a 69-66 lead, A Jake Simpson three could not draw iron and the Eagles would hit free throws to seal the victory.
The Grenadiers (26-5) opened the game by scoring the first seven points of the contest, but Robert Morris went on a 32-2 run. The Grenadiers battled back to cut the lead to 37-28 at halftime.
IU Southeast continued its solid play to start the second half and took the lead 39-37 after a Jake Simpson layup.
The game would be a back-and-forth affair the rest of the way.
Vernon Payne had 21 points to lead the Grenadiers. Kevin Mitchell had 17 and Cameron Mitchell had 12 points.
The Grenadiers finish the season with a 26-5 record and undefeated 17-0 mark in KIAC play.
