IU Southeast Softball Wins NAIA Opening Round Game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Twins Lauren and Morgan Klosterman combined to score the game winning run as Indiana University Southeast opened the 2014 NAIA Softball Opening Round with a thrilling 5-4 extra inning victory over No. 20 University of Houston-Victoria.

The game was back and forth throughout. The Grenadiers (42-10) opened scoring in the first when Jade Detzer singled to right and Shelby Lucas scored.

The Jaguars came back to score three runs in the bottom of the inning.

No. 3 seed IU Southeast came back to tie the game in the third when Detzer came through again with a two-run RBI triple that scored Katelyn Heines and Brookelyn Visker.

Detzer went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Houston-Victoria answered back in the bottom of the inning when Savannah Crittenden hit a sacrifice fly to retake the lead.

Jordan Batliner tied the game with a double and Lucas scored her second run of the game.

In the eighth, Morgan Klosterman reached base on a bunt single and then stole second. Lauren singled to right-center to score Morgan.

Jessica Leanhart (19-2) set the single-season record with her. She worked eight innings, giving up four runs and struck out three.

IU Southeast will face the winner of top seeded Auburn-Montgomery and No. 4 seed Bryan at 3 p.m. ET Tuesday.
