Women's Basketball: IU East coaches #Chillin4Charity

The Red Wolf women's basketball coaches experienced the "chill of victory" for a worthy cause.

IU East women's basketball head coach Tiffani Selhorst and assistant Sara Rondeau answered a #Chillin4Charity challenge on June 27.

The #Chillin4Charity challenge concept swept through the women's basketball coaching community this summer. University of Arizona women's basketball head coach Niya Butts originated the idea to raise money and awareness for the Kay Yow Foundation. According to the Kay Yow Foundation Web site, after getting herself soaked with a bucket of ice-cold water, Butts challenged a group of fellow coaches to do the same and then pass the challenge along. The idea quickly spread across the nation.

The challenge reached Richmond last week. University of Delaware assistant Allison Daly, who played and coached at Saint Francis University when Selhorst was an assistant coach at the school, called out her former SFU coaches before completing the challenge herself.

Selhorst had 48 hours to either answer the challenge or quadruple her donation to the Kay Yow Foundation.

Selhorst and Rondeau met the challenge with some help from the Third Grade Academy students studying at IU East this summer and members of the Red Wolf men's basketball team.

"This is a great opportunity to raise money for the Kay Yow fund, and we are excited to do it," Selhorst said just before the third graders dumped the buckets of ice water on her.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is named after the former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach. Through events, fundraising and partnerships, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund supports research, provides grants, and drives inspiration in the fight against women's cancers.
