FLORENCE, Ky. – Midway University libero Hannah Payne had a busy week on defense and was named the KIAC Volleyball Defender of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4.

A 5-2 freshman from Louisville, Ky., Payne totaled 85 digs in 15 sets on the week for an average of 5.67 digs per set. The highlight was 38 digs in a five-set win over Ohio Christian, the most assists for her on the week.

Payne also put up 21 digs at Point Park, 10 digs at Asbury and 16 digs at Carlow as part of a long road trip for the Eagles. She was also strong on serve-receive with just one error in 52 chances for a reception percentage of .981. She served at a rate of .900 with just three errors in 90 attempts.

For the year, Payne has 246 digs to lead the team. She is fourth in the KIAC in digs per set at 4.5. Midway (3-15, 1-7 KIAC) returns to action Oct. 6 at home versus Cincinnati Clermont at 7 p.m.
