KIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Marquis Jackson (Ohio Christian)
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Marquis Jackson and Ohio Christian are new to the KIAC and new to the NAIA, but they are already getting attention in both areas.
The 6-0, junior guard from Cleveland, Ohio, averaged 33.5 ppg in two games last week -- including 41 points in a win over No. 7 Union (Ky.) -- to earn the first KIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award of the season. He won recognition for the week of Nov. 2-8.
Jackson, in his first year since transferring from Cuyahago CC, had his 41 points come on 7 of 12 from 3-point range in the upset win over No. 7 Union (Ky.), 75-74. He followed that up with 26 points and 3 of 6 from the outside in a 90-78 win over Bluefield (Va.).
For the week, Jackson shot 57 percent from the field (20 for 35), 56 percent from long range (10 for 18) and 94 percent from the foul line (17 for 18).
Through three games, which also includes another upset over No. 21 Robert Morris (Ill.), 84-82 (3OT) on Monday, Nov. 9, he is averaging 30.3 ppg. That ranks third in NAIA Division II in scoring average. Ohio Christian (3-0) visits Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
