KIAC Commissioner's Cup Standings -- Point Park leads after Fall 2015 season
FLORENCE, Ky. -- The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released the standings for the KIAC Commissioner's All-Sports Cup after the completion of the fall 2015 sports season, and Point Park University leads the standings in first place.
Point Park, which claimed the KIAC Commissioner's Cup for the 2014-15 school year, garnered an average of 12.00 points for first place after the completion of the fall. The University of Rio Grande is second with an average of 11.20 points, Asbury (Ky.) University is third at 11.17, Indiana University Southeast is fourth at 11.00, and Indiana University Kokomo is fifth at 10.00 to round out the top five.
The fall sports season included KIAC championships in six sports -- men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball. Schools earned points for their placement in each sport, and each school's point total was divided by the number of sports sponsored by that school in the fall season.
For the team sports of men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball, the KIAC regular-season standings were used for determining point totals. For men's and women's cross country, the KIAC championship meet was used. With 13 KIAC member schools, 13 points were awarded for a first-place finish, 12 for second place, 11 for third place and so on.
Point Park leads the fall standings after having all five of its fall sports teams finish in the top three of the KIAC. The Pioneers took first place in men's and women's cross country, second place in women's soccer and third place in men's soccer and volleyball.
Rio Grande was next led by its NAIA national championship men's soccer team that placed first in the KIAC. The RedStorm also had its men's and women's cross country teams each place second and its women's soccer team take third.
Asbury is in third place led by its women's soccer team winning first place in the regular season. The Eagles also had high finishes with women's tennis in second place and men's and women's cross country in third place. The Eagles led the conference with 67 total points.
IU Southeast is in fourth place after the fall led by its women's tennis team placing first in the regular season. IU Kokomo is in fifth place in the standings on the strength of its volleyball team winning the KIAC regular-season and tournament titles.
