Midway Eagles Athletics Names Sherrill Smith Head Soccer Coach
Midway, Ky. - Midway College's athletics department has announced that Sherrill G. Smith will become the new head coach of its women's soccer team.
Smith comes to Midway after spending 30 years coaching boys' soccer at Frankfort High School, becoming one of the top-ten winningest coaches in Kentucky. In 2014, he received several awards for his work, including Great Lakes Coach of the Year for small schools by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association (KHSSCA) Coach of the Year and the Central Kentucky Soccer Officials Association (CKSOA) Coach of the Year.
He has coached rec and select soccer teams as well as high school boys' and girls' tennis, boys' basketball, and baseball. Several of his players have received statewide awards and have gone on to successfully play soccer/tennis on the college level.
In addition to coaching, Smith has experience in athletics administration. He was Commissioner of the Kentucky All "A" State Soccer Cup Tournament from 1999-2012, has served on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Soccer Committee and has worked with the NSCAA.

"He is an experienced educator and leader who has devoted his career to working with young people, helping them succeed on and off the field. He will be a tremendous asset to our soccer program."
Smith holds the Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters and Rank 1 in Education from Georgetown College. In addition, he holds Instructional Supervisor, Director of Pupil Personnel and Superintendent Certification from Eastern Kentucky University. He is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Frankfort Independent Schools.
Smith lives in Frankfort, Ky. with his wife of 35 years, Ruth. The couple has four children and three grandchildren.
