Ohio Christian University Approved for NAIA Membership
Ohio Christian University has been approved by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Council of Presidents for membership in the NAIA, effective August 1, 2015. Ohio Christian was unanimously approved by KIAC Athletic Directors and Council of Presidents to join the conference contingent upon NAIA approval.
"I am very happy to see the NAIA approve Ohio Christian University (OCU) for membership." KIAC Commissioner Melton wrote in an email. "OCU was already approved for membership to the KIAC pending approval by the NAIA. Athletics Director, Ben Belleman, OCU's coaches and their administration are committed to the NAIA Champions of Character mission and will bring quality athletic programs to the Conference. The addition of OCU and recently approved West Virginia University Tech (WVUT) brings the KIAC membership to thirteen schools in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia for the 2015-2016 season. The Conference is in the strongest position it's been in years. We are delighted OCU is joining us."
Ohio Christian Athletic Director said, "Ohio Christian is very excited to receive the final word of acceptance from the NAIA. We are ready for the new challenge of the next step in our growth process."
Ohio Christian will offer 12 scholarship sports – baseball, softball, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, cross country, soccer and track and field. West Virginia Tech will offer will offer 10 scholarship sports – baseball, softball, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, cross country, and soccer.
