University of Rio Grande freshman Mallory Powell was named the KIAC softball pitcher of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, April 6th.
Powell earned the win in 3 of Rio's 5 wins last week as the RedStorm finished the week 5-1. She finished the week 3-0 with a 3.64 earned run average in 17.1 innings pitched. She pitched a complete game against Asbury while only allowing a single run and striking out four Asbury hitters. Powell improved to 5-0 on the season with a 3.99 earned run average in 33.1 innings pitched.
The University of Rio Grande is currently 16-7 overall and 10-2 in conference play. They will return to action on April 7th when they travel to West Virginia State for a doubleheader.
